Reiki (pronounced RAY-KEY) is a word derived
from two Japanese words: REI (The Universal Life Force) and KI (sacred energy). In the 1930's, Hawayo Takata
(1900-1980) brought this healing art (Usui Shiki Ryoho-the
Usui System of Natural Healing) to the western world. Her teacher, Chujiro
Hayashi was taught by Mikao Usui, the founder.
Since 1980, Takata's granddaughter, Phyllis Lei Furumoto
(www.usuireiki-ogm.com / www.usuishikiryohoreiki.com),
carries the spiritual lineage of the system.
"The Reiki method is not only for curing illness. Its true purpose is to correct the heart-mind, keep the body fit, and lead a happy life using the spiritual capabilities human beings were endowed with since birth."
-From the memorial stone of Mikao Usui, Founder of the Usui System of Reiki Healing.
